AD – this post contains gifted items.
A few months ago (make that more like the end of last year!), Dermalogica got in touch and asked if I’d like to be sent some products to try out. Skincare is something I’ve never been good at (because I’m lazy!) but it’s something I’m becoming more and more aware that I should be investing my time into – as I mentioned here.
Of course, I leapt at the opportunity! I’d only heard good things about Dermalogica previously, and I think skincare is always a tricky one. It really is trial and error to find products which work for you and your individual skin type, so I thought I’d give some of their products a go and see how I found them.
As you can see, it’s taken me a while to write this post. I really believe that trying out products and giving a real, honest review of them actually takes time. You need to fully understand the changes those products are making to your face – and know it’s from the products, not just a good time in the month.
The last thing I wanted to do was simply try them a few times and say how great they are. It’s not helpful for you, and it’s not helpful for me either. This way, I’ve really put them to the test and I’ve been able to monitor how my skin has felt and looked throughout the whole process.
To start off, they asked what skin type I had (oily!) and then sent over some products accordingly…
So, let’s get into it…
Please note: I am in no way a beauty or skincare expert (I told you how lazy I am!) but I wanted to share my experience of using the below Dermalogica products. As we all know, skincare products vary hugely from person to person, but I thought I’d give you the lowdown on each product in case you fancy giving them a go too!
Dermalogica products that arrived:
- Special cleansing gel
- Daily microfoliant
- Skin smoothing cream
- Skinperfect primer
So there we have it. 5 products that could make up your whole skincare routine. I’m not one for using loads of different products on my face as it is. From experience, keeping it fairly simple works best for me. So, when I realised my whole skincare regime could include just a total of 4 products (the primer makes up the 5th, and really that’s part of your makeup routine) I was so pleased. This was easy! It wasn’t too overwhelming as to what the hell each product was or did, and it wasn’t too much to have to try to squeeze in to my skincare routine in the mornings and nights. Told you I’m lazy…
Before we get into the knitty gritty stuff, I want to share my first impressions first off.
One of the main things I like about Dermalogica is they’re not trying to hard. This instantly screams out to me that a product is actually good. They’re not having to make the branding out of this world to get people to buy it. People will buy it because it works. The packaging is simple. It’s not overly luxurious or posh and I like that!
They say Dermalogica hasn’t been made to match the interior of your bathroom, but luckily for me it really does. It’s all white with grey text – a match made in heaven. I always leave them out on my bathroom shelf as I’m using them day and night, and I love the way they look.
Plus, none of the products listed have an over-bearing perfume smell. As much as I love a bit of fragrance when moisturising my whole body for example, when it comes to my skincare I’m not too fussed. In fact, if anything, I’d rather it didn’t have any smell. I don’t like products to be too fussy and with someone who has naturally oily skin, I don’t like the thought that I’m piling on excess product onto my face which could cause my pores to clog and bring on dreaded spots!
This little precleanse is a dream. It’s worth noting that I still use my makeup remover beforehand, then precleanse, followed by the cleansing gel. But, the magic of this product is that it completely replaces the need to have an additional makeup remover. So you can save yourself money here if you don’t usually use a makeup remover. Squirt some of this onto your dry hands and rub it over your face and eyes (it doesn’t sting!) and it literally melts away your makeup from the day. It couldn’t be quicker – or easier!
If like me, you want to stick to your usual makeup remover (because you love it!) – I find this works as a nice first step to cleansing. I’ve been told time and time again by experts in the beauty industry that you should be cleansing twice every morning and night. The first is a cleanse to remove any makeup, pollution or dirt (this little precleanse would act as this first step!) and the second cleanse is to cleanse your actual skin.
This leads me on to the next product…
Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel
This cleansing gel is one of my favourites.
I’ve never previously used a cleansing gel, so I don’t have much to compare it to. But, this leaves my skin feeling so clean, so fresh and gives me a nice little glow afterwards. That’s got to count for something, hasn’t it?!
Simply squeeze a small amount into wet hands and massage onto your face and neck. A little goes a long way with this (I still have loads left!) and it creates such a nice, soft lather. It’s b-e-a-utiful and so worth adding into your daily routine!
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
Okay, this is one of the products I’ve used the least. Purely because it’s another step in the routine which takes a little longer, and which I feel isn’t as necessary to do all the time.
This microfoliant is good though, and definitely feels like a little treat to your skin. Simply sprinkle a little into your palm, massage into your skin and rinse off.
It says you can use this everyday, but I personally feel like that’s perhaps a little overkill. I add this into my skincare weekly routine instead, when I’m having a bit more of a pamper on a Sunday evening.
It leaves your skin feeling smoother, cleaner and more rejuvenated. The perfect addition to a pamper night!
Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream
This cream has been one of my favourite products from this range to use every day. I like a cream which feels like it’s giving me the moisture I need (your skin can feel a little tight and dry after cleansing) without being too thick. As someone with oily skin, this is a biggy for me.
I’ve been known to try alternative face creams and my skin has a mild breakout because they’re just too thick and clog my pores. I’m pleased to say this has never happened with this cream! It’s not thick, it’s not fussy and it leaves my skin feeling lovely and soft!
Dermalogica Skinperfect Primer
Before this product, I never normally bothered to use a primer before applying my makeup. I’d tried one before (albeit a cheap primer) and I never found it made any difference to how my make up looked, or how long it lasted.
Then I tried this one.
It feels super smooth when applying it to your skin, and it actually makes a difference! I’ve even had people comment on how good my skin and makeup look since using it. That’s the kind of result we all want to see!
You don’t need to use loads of this as it glides over your skin and goes pretty far! My makeup stays put so much longer (noticeably longer than before!) and it seems to make my makeup just sit that bit nicer too.
If I had to choose just one product to keep from all of the above? This would be it.
As you can tell, this is a post of one impressed and totally transformed gal who has upped her daily beauty regime to the MAX and is reaping the rewards!
My skin feels smoother and brighter. My pores have definitely reduced and my complexion looks a whole lot clearer. It’s a massive thumbs up from me!
