“The problem I have is simple. Do I really want to spend near to £80 on a cream for me to a) not even like it and b) know I could spend that money on several items elsewhere? My hand is tied. But, I’m glad to say – you don’t have to spend a small fortune to find good skincare products.”

We’re all in search of the latest must-have beauty products which swear to us we’ll be walking away with radiant skin, a lifted complexion and minimised pores. The marketing of these products is filled with so much jargon it’s hard to know what to believe truly works.

We most likely have no idea what the hell the product actually does, or what’s in it, but it sounds fancy and like it knows what it’s doing so it must be good, right?! That or we’ve just successfully bought into it because it’s said all of the things we want to hear. The reality? We’ve just forked out on over £100 on two products that don’t do a damn thing.

For someone who used to break out in a cold sweat at the prospect of leaving the house without my make up on, a big lover of hair products and beauty on the whole, I’ve weirdly never been massively into my skincare. In fact, my skincare routine (if you can even call it that) has always been pretty basic. This is largely due to the fact that I’m lazy with it. I’d rather just jump into bed than have to spend time ‘pampering’ myself beforehand. That’s why, as part of the 24 things I want to achieve this year, improving my skincare and moisturising more are two of them.

I’ve been having a pamper evening one night a week where I use a few more products on top of my usual routine. A few is all you need if they do the job. I’ve found some real gems that I’m now slightly obsessed with, and you’re bound to love them too. They’re affordable, and (drum roll please)… they actually work!

Despite the odd hormonal breakout appearing here and there, I generally don’t suffer with spots too often. My pores on the other hand, are another matter in their entirety. I suffer with blackheads (and pesky whiteheads – although who really knows what they actually are?!) and my pores are pretty visible. Really selling myself here, aren’t I?

My skin type is oily to combination, and generally, I struggle to find skincare products that I find really work wonders. I don’t want to pay over the odds for one product, I want them to be quick and easy, and I want results (and not wait a year to see them).

The problem I have is simple. Do I really want to spend near to £80 on a cream for me to a) not even like it and b) know I could spend that money on several items elsewhere? My hand is tied. But, I’m glad to say – you don’t have to spend a small fortune to find good skincare products.

It may have taken me a while to find products that I truly love, but I’m glad to say I’ve finally got there. They’re not OTT, they’re simple to use and they actually work. Plus? None of them will break the bank.

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub – £9.95 (Boots)

I’m starting off with my favourite product first – a scrub like no other. I’ve found myself raving about this to my friends (which I can honestly say I’ve never done before) because it’s just that good. I like to use a scrub that I can ‘feel’ working. I want it to feel like it’s cleaning my skin and removing any dead skin cells, and this does just the job. What’s even better? You can use this while you’re in the shower too. I’m all about the multi-tasking, guys.

Simply massage into damp skin, and rinse. Incredibly, after using this scrub, my skin instantly feels…better. I wake up in the morning, and it’s better again. I’ve actively said to Harry (on numerous occasions now) “how good does my skin look though?!” – not that he cares. I’ve never felt like my skin actually looks any different after using a product before. Until now. And this was after just the first use. My skin looks healthier, feels softer and this is one of the key products I use to help keep my skin clear. If you’re going to try out any products from this post, this is definitely the one. You’ll be obsessed.

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads – £14.95 (Boots)

If you’re going to buy the Nip + Fab scrub, you can’t not buy the night pads to finish it all off. As far as I’m concerned, these two products make the perfect pair. I use this up to three times a week (if I’m really being on it), either after using the scrub, or simply after cleansing. Wipe the pad over your face, and you’re done. It’s that easy! These work overnight to cleanse and energise the skin – and, alongside the scrub, I can seriously see the difference. These pads are the dream, and there’s no way I’m removing these from my skincare routine anytime soon.

Witch Naturally Clear Blemish Stick – £2.69 (Superdrug)

This little stick of magic works wonders. Put this on morning and night over that pesky spot, and it will be gone within 2 days. Seriously.

I always knew this product was good, but it wasn’t until I ran out that I truly experienced this. A normal spot with no treatment? It will hang around (unwanted) for a week or so. But, a spot being treated with this stick? It’s gone in just 2 days. Or very, very close to being gone if it’s a bad one.

Have a party coming up? Who cares! This blemish stick is my go-to life-saver for all those annoying situations when your skin is rebelling. And for under £3? You can’t say no to that.

No7 Beautiful Skin Gorgeous Glow Body Scrub – £13.50 (Boots)

This one’s an all-over body treat. Like I said previously, I like a scrub to feel like it’s properly exfoliating my skin, and this one lives up to the hype. It not only smells divine (believe me), your skin will be left feeling super smooth and soft afterwards too. And, you can do this one in the shower, so it doesn’t have to be a chore. Finish off with moisturiser, and your skin will resemble that of a babies bum. Ooh.

REN Skincare Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial – £34.00 (REN Skincare)

This is the newest addition to my skincare routine, and one of the quickest to win me over. This is the most expensive item in my list, and definitely one that has a ‘treat me’ feel to it. But it’s worth it. It has a silk-like texture which instantly made me feel like I was dealing with luxury. Oh yes. This glides onto your skin so effortlessly, you really feel like you’re pampering yourself with this one. It does the hard work overnight too, so you wake up the next day with gloriously soft skin which instantly looks brighter. I never thought I’d say that.

Apply 2-3 pumps onto your skin after cleansing, and before finishing off with moisturiser. You’ll feel like a new woman. Honest.

Skin Doctors Ingrow Go – £11.39 (Boots)

If you tend to suffer with those pesky ingrown hairs, this may just be the answer to your problems. I’ve always had a tendency to get ingrown hairs, and after waxing my legs, the beautician recommended this product to me. This solution replaces the need to exfoliate. Winning. When the hair starts growing back, apply a few drops of this to a cotton wool pad and wipe over the problematic area up to 3 times a week. I’ll be honest. I don’t use this as much as I should, but even with my lack of perseverance, I’ve noticed that my ingrown hairs are few and far between now. Keep up with it, and you will see results.

I hope this has helped you to discover some new brands, or products you may have not previously considered. I love them because they all work, they’re quick to use and they’re affordable.

Say hello to great skin…
