“In my opinion, your hair can be the ultimate deal breaker. A good cut or colour can give you that huge confidence boost you’ve been needing, and can make you feel like the best version of yourself. And who doesn’t need that every once in a while?”
If you follow me over on Instagram, you’ll know that I recently went for the chop, and got a lob! You know, a long bob. Geddit?
I’ve recently been having my hair cut shorter and shorter each time, and after lusting over lots of Pinterest photos, I decided it was about time I took the plunge and embraced a hair change.
For some, embracing a hair change is no big deal. But for me, it really is.
Well, back in the day I had long hair and asked my hairdresser for layers. What did I end up with? It all cut off short and a boy haircut. No joke. If you don’t believe me, just find anyone who went to my first school to confirm…
Since this rather traumatising ordeal (yes, I’ve never fully got over it) I’ve always hated getting my haircut, and played it safe until a couple of years ago – too scared to ask for anything different in case the hairdresser got it completely wrong. Again.
That was, until my sister’s friend became a hairdresser a few years ago and I swiftly moved over to put my hair in her hands, as it were. Since then, I’ve embraced lots of little hair changes. I’ve had dip dye, a full head of foils, and of course, had it cut shorter. I now love going to get my haircut, and totally get the whole pampering feeling I used to hear so often, but could never comprehend.
That’s why it’s SO important to find a hairdresser who totally gets what you want, will be completely honest if they don’t think what you’ve asked for will suit you, AND won’t just do what they want without consulting you first. That’s a big one. Once you’ve found them, don’t let them go. I’ve since moved to Birmingham, but I’ll never go to a hairdresser here purely for the fact that I know I can 100% trust the hairdresser I already have.

I’d been thinking about going for a lob for a while, but nerves got the better of me each time. And now I’ve finally gone for it? I absolutely love it and have 0 regrets. In fact, I wish I’d done it earlier!
I’ve received lots of compliments since too, which is always nice to hear. So if you want to mix it up and try out a new style? That’s exactly what you should do. You’re bound to love it. And if you don’t? It will grow back.
Despite sharing a little hair horror story with you earlier on, changing your look (or hair) can be one of the best things you can do if you want that instant ‘feel good’ feeling. And, it can completely transform your image too!
The moral of the story (or this post)? Embrace a hair change! Go for something new! You’ll feel like you can go and conquer anything afterwards (at least for that day anyway…)
As the saying goes, there’s no time like the present…
