“By now, we should have been a week into the extension work starting. Our garden would be well and truly ruined (although it’s not a great sight as it is) with the foundations being put in place. And, after 5 months of dreaming about the extension happening, it would actually be happening…”
Yep, you read that right. Our renovation plans are on hold. No guesses as to why…
So I thought I should probably update you – especially as I’d recently told you that our extension work was just about to commence!
By now, we should have been a week into the extension work starting. Our garden would be well and truly ruined (although it’s not a great sight as it is) with the foundations being put in place. And, after 5 months of dreaming about the extension happening, it would actually be happening and our dream house would soon become a reality.
Instead, we’re on lockdown with zilch going on.
Of course, in the grand scheme of things, our extension plans being on hold is nothing to moan about. I GET IT! But this dreaded ‘C’ virus is really putting a dampener on 2020 for a lot of us, isn’t it?! That’s putting it lightly…
So, what now?
I’m trying to stay positive about the whole situation as much as I can – focusing on the little things each day that are lifting my mood.
I mean, this would be the perfect opportunity to be able to get some DIY done. I’m extremely jealous of everyone I see on Instagram cracking on and doing just that! Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do around the house right now. Trust me, I spent a good week prior to lockdown racking my brains at every possible opportunity to think of anything we could get going with. There’s nothing. Nada. Zero.
Everything we could do would just be a complete waste of our time and money. All of the walls need re-plastering so there’s no point painting. There’s no point sorting out the garden as it’s just going to be dug up… the list goes on.
Instead, I’ll be spending this extra time we have to save more vital pennies (crucial when doing a renovation!), create some mood boards for each of the rooms (which I’ll share with you) and pick out the exact items we’re going to be buying. Skirting boards, radiators, radiator valves, light switches…you name it, I’m on it! After all, this extra time means no decision will be rushed and we can make sure we look into all of our options carefully. I don’t want any regrets!
Nothing quite like teasing yourself, is there…
Documenting the extension…
This extra time has also left me to think about the best way to document the extension taking place. Obviously, I’ll be updating you on Instagram, and there’s bound to be a few blog posts too. As you know, I’ve stopped creating YouTube videos, but I have been thinking about possibly doing IGTV videos instead. Sometimes video captures things a whole lot better, doesn’t it?! Anyway, if you’d like that, let me know and I can get some plans in place!
Obviously this whole situation is a little frustrating and less than ideal. We have no idea when our extension will now be taking place or how long this situation will last, but it’s out of our control. That means we’ve got to focus on the positives!
- More time to save.
- No rushed decision-making.
- And of course, the most important one, we – and the people we know and love – stay safe.
I hope you’re all coping as best you can during this very surreal time. And if you ever want to chat all things interior or house related (because you know how much I love it) come say hi on Instagram – my inbox is always open!
