“I was going solo, I’ve never had a wreath before (let alone have a clue about how to make one), and so in all honesty, I didn’t really know what to expect. Except for mulled wine and mince pies. Which I was very excited about.”
Last week, I decided to go full force into the Christmas festivities. I joined a wreath making class being held by Bloom Collective – a florist in Birmingham who I love!
I was going solo. I’ve never had a wreath before (let alone have a clue about how to make one), and so in all honesty, I didn’t really know what to expect. Except for mulled wine and mince pies. Which I was very excited about.
Upon arrival, I received said mince pie and mulled wine. Yum! I eagerly awaited the start of the session, chatting to some lovely girls who also came solo. Phew! The room was set out gorgeously, with low lighting (so hygge), candles and some Christmas music playing in the background.
The wreath making…
We started off with a mini tutorial as to how to tie the foliage to the wreaths, and off we went! I was a little dubious as to how my wreath would turn out, what foliage would look good together, and basically still didn’t really get the concept of how to create a ‘good’ wreath. I didn’t want it to be a complete failure. Turns out, wreath making isn’t as easy as it looks! But, I soon realised, the more foliage you add, the better it gets. Just go for it!
I decided to keep my wreath pretty simple in terms of having minimal colour or berries on it. Instead, I opted for a foliage heavy wreath (if that’s even a thing) – keeping it rather green. For my first attempt? I was pretty impressed!
Despite the hard work on your hands, it was a super fun evening and I loved it. So much so (you guessed it) it’s something I now want to do every year. Oops. It’s so much nicer when you do things yourself and try something new, rather than just opting for the easy route and buying everything ready made. Plus, it’s way more fun this way!
My wreath is now proudly placed in my front room. And, along with our Christmas tree, the room smells divine. Hello Christmas. I’m ready for you!
Thanks for having me Bloom Collective!
